From: Tammie and Nicole Menas Date: May 14, 2003 Jayne, Thank you so much for the skating experience you have given to
Nicole (7yrs). She loved taking Basic 3-4 with you and she learned how to do the elements correctly. She is taking 3-4 over because Basic 4 is a bit more difficult for her. You are so patient and you make it fun for her. She is hoping to have you again in Basic 5-6. Thanks for being such a great coach! I love to sit and read your web-site also. It helps me to understand a little more of what this sport is about. I will be reading some of the books you have
recommended.
From: Donna Oglethorpe Date: March 12, 2003 I am homesick! And, do I miss the lessons! But, when I have skated out here, I am so glad I've been taking the lessons, because it's been so personally satisfying.
It's been extremely difficult for me to keep up with the skating and to get transportation to the good rinks. I did manage to get rides out to the Fairfax Ice Arena twice, and so far once to the Dale City Arena, but most of my skating has been done on the out door rinks because they are closest to the Metro. It's an hour ride even on the Metro to the outdoor rinks. It's pretty dangerous at the bus stops after dark, and with the snow, it was not even a feasible task. I'm hoping with daylight lasting longer, maybe I can get to the better rinks with a combination of Metro and bus service. Taxi service to the nearest rink is $17.00 one way. So maybe on a splurge, but not on a regular basis.
I've been skating at Pentagon Row, and the National Art Gallery Sculpture Garden. The Sculpture Garden is the largest, and they'll let me work on my waltz jumps there. Both will close this month for the season.
One night at Pentagon Row there was a heavy mist, though it was freezing out. No one was skating, so I had the rink to myself. My glasses were so wet I could not see what I was doing. (All the public sessions at Skatetown, when they turn off the lights had a purpose after all). When I took my glasses off to sling off the water, I realized I had a crowd watching me. The compliments I received belong to you! Thank you for your patience and helping me to achieve a dream of being able to skate. See ya in May or June!
From: Leslie (Garrett) DuFresne Date: November 18, 2002 Hi
Jayne! Who would have thought back in the days of Ice House and Birdcage that someday there would be "web
sites" for skating. Wonder how our skating days would have been in today's times? One thing I wouldn't change and that's the days when everyone would get together one morning very early, kidnap the birthday person from their bed and take them to "Farrells" blindfolded in their jammies. Were those the days or what? What memories we all have
now! I hope all your students take with them as many good on-ice and off-ice memories as we all did. Take care and I'll see you around the rink some time. Leslie :)

Hi Jayne!
I wish I had visited your website sooner, it's one of the best
websites there is as far as figure skating sport is concerned. You have featured
a variety of very vital & what I also considered critical information to
help a skater succeed.
I want to thank you for your continuous and relentless
effort to guide and teach skaters of all ages. Your sincere concern and personal
attention to each and everyone of your students is rare. I know where I will be
on my break times, visiting your website.
THANK YOU, JAYNE !!!

Jayne, I have just returned from skating camp in Lake Placid. While I enjoyed
the experience tremendously, I found myself anxious to return home to show
"my coach" everything I learned. Your professionalism, graciousness,
and patient approach to teaching adults to skate is greatly appreciated by me.
Although I enjoyed the instructors in Lake Placid, you are still #1.
Your
website is an extension of your professional approach, warm personality and deep
commitment to teaching and coaching. Great job!

Jayne,
Thanks for the page. "Choosing a coach" was especially
helpful. It answered all the questions I have ... and came to the conclusion
that I've chosen the right coach!
Thanks!

Hi there, Jayne! And hello to anyone else reading this, too. I just wanted to
say that this website is a microcosm of all that Jayne does--of the highest
quality, complete, done with care and attention to detail. I am away at college
now, but also skating with Team del Sol, the fifth-place synchronized skating
team in the U.S., and continuing to work on my singles skating. I can honestly
say I miss Jayne more than anyone else from home. I have spent the last six
months searching for a coach down here, and let me say that no one could come
close to comparing to Jayne. I could never, nor would I ever think of, replacing
her.
I cannot put into words what Jayne has been to me for the last ten years I
have taken lessons from her; I feel no words could adequately describe all she
has done and how utterly amazing she is. Not only is Jayne a talented
coach--knowledgeable and positive--but she is also an unbelievable person. She
has taught me many lessons about life, attitude, perserverence and grace off the
ice as well as on. I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank Jayne
publicly and to let everyone know that she is the best there is. Her technique
is great and true to her word, she does all she can to continue her growth as a
coach through educational programs and seminars. Her committment to her skaters
is second to none.
If you are in search of a coach, I would definately recommend
you or your child try taking a lesson with her. Without I would never be the
skater or the person I am today.

What a wonderful website! We are new to the area and are looking for a new
skating coach. Your article about "choosing a coach" is exceptional
and has been very useful in our search.
Thank you.

While I still don't quite understand what possessed me to begin skating, what
with having two left feet, other uncooperative parts of my body, and a cautious
nature, I found out when I began lessons with you. Since you have been my coach,
with your infinite patience, endless encouragement, direction, and gentle
pushing, I just love skating.
The process of skating is fun, and you've helped
me realize I can accomplish things for myself in skating, even as an adult. I
look forward to every lesson. You are a wonderful coach, Jayne!
The website is
very artfully done, and really nice!

Margaret and I really appreciate your skills and friendly
demeanor. Although I no longer skate, I have a deep appreciation of the skills
required, and the higher skills required to teach others. Keep up the good work!

To all readers, I thought there might be people who would like an opinion
from an "older student". I watched the "Battle of the Brians"
in the 1988 Olympics and was so amazed at what I saw that I said, "I have
to do that." I was 30 years old and knew that it sounded ridiculous to
start taking figure skating lessons (I had never skated in my life). I found the
old 'Iceland' rink in Sacramento, got on the ice with my rental skates, and
thought to myself..."This is the biggest mistake of my life!"
Then I
met Jayne. Through extreme (and I mean extreme!) patience on Jayne's part, I
gradually starting learning everything that had seemed to be only a dream just 6
months earlier. My time on the ice was a real feeling of achievement. I know
that if it had not been for Jayne, I would have given up just a short time after
starting. But she has an amazing way of listening to her students, how they feel
about a particular jump or spin, and coming up with the correction to any
problem through understanding those feelings.
If anyone is giving a second
thought to taking lessons with Jayne, let me put your mind at ease. Take just
one lesson with her, and you'll know who your instructor will be. I don't skate
very much anymore, but it is nice to know that I achieved a goal that I thought
was unattainable. And whenever I do get the chance to get on the ice, it doesn't
take long for those lessons to pop back in my mind and I'm off skating freely
with the problems of the world left behind.
Thanks Jayne!

P.S. Maybe you can show me some of that Rhythmic gymnastics sometime, eh?:)
Love Always,

Your Web Site looks Great!
What is really great is your ability to teach and
instruct. As grandparents of two students that you have taught to skate and are
still instructing and coaching them. We have been and still are impressed with
your ability to handle all ages of youth.
